Paris has a way of flipping on certain switches inside me, including the “on” button for béarnaise sauce, late-night spontaneity, and mentally cataloguing what every other woman in a five-block radius is wearing. (Trust me, the French women are watching each other, too.) I found myself taking notes—literally and sartorially—between bites of a still-warm baguette, noting how Parisians wear style like second skin. And I reminded myself of a few simple rules: put on the good jacket to buy a sandwich, wear red lipstick on a Tuesday, change for dinner just because it feels like a new chapter of the day.
